Seaport Landing Volunteer (Grays Harbor Historical Seaport)

    • As we redevelop our 34-acre old sawmill into a public waterfront development, we need you to make it happen!
    • Each Wednesday to Saturday, we could use volunteers for various tasks including office work, managing inventory, yard work, painting and scraping, programming assistance, light construction, and general cleaning.

7th Street Theater Movie Volunteers*

    • Our movie volunteers help take tickets, sell concessions, pop popcorn, and run the movie from the projection booth. Movies are shown 1 - 2 times a month and volunteers are needed 1 hour before the movie begins. Once the movie starts, volunteers are able to stay and enjoy the movie free of charge. 
    • You can volunteer for one night or all of them. It's a fun time and you will get to know some awesome people!

HAVA Shelter Volunteer (Harbor Association of Volunteers for Animals)*

    • HAVA's shelter volunteer typically works a two-hour shift at Harry's HAVA House Shelter in downtown Raymond. Volunteers will spend time socializing with the cats and cleaning their living areas. We have the need for volunteers in the morning and evening shifts. The morning shift is typically 8am - 10am and evening shift is typically 4pm-6pm. However, we can be flexible with the start and end times.

South Beach Christian Outreach

    • We are volunteers from local churches who desire to serve and build up our community by helping to ease food insecurities, clothing, and hygiene needs, as well as spending time getting to know and value the folks who come through our doors.

Friends of the Aberdeen Museum

    • We promote the preservation of the history of Aberdeen and surrounding areas. We have changing monthly displays. We have entries in the Rain Glow Festival, Founders Day and other community events. We produce a quarterly history newsletter.

ARC of Grays Harbor

    • The ARC of Grays Harbor is dedicated to enhancing the lives of individuals with disabilities. Community members can volunteer to help with special events or lend a hand in the office. There is also a need for Spanish and sign language interpreters. “We would appreciate any one who is open to assisting, mentoring, or being a companion to individuals with disabilities,” said Charlene McCarty, the organization’s administrative assistant and coordinator. “The time commitment is whatever an individual is willing to give. Every minute is greatly appreciated.”

Therapy Dogs of Grays Harbor

    • At present, Therapy Dogs of Grays Harbor’s primary outreach is their Happy Tails reading program. Volunteers bring their dogs to the Montesano elementary schools each week. These dogs encourage literacy by cuddling up with students as they read a book. “Our reading days are Tuesdays from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Simpson Elementary School and Thursdays from 12:30 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. at Beacon Elementary School,” said Marlene Vahl, secretary for the group. Vahl adds that the organization plans to start bringing dogs to visit residents in nursing homes in the near future. Anyone interested in volunteering is welcome to attend the organization’s monthly meetings, which are held at the Montesano Timberland Library on the second Tuesday of the month at 5:15 p.m.

Harbor Regional Health

    • Harbor Regional Health is always in need of caring, compassionate individuals to assist patients and visitors. Volunteers can provide clerical assistance in the office, assist staff members in making patients comfortable in the ER or medical unit, direct guests and visitors by answering questions and providing information. 
    • Patient Support Services
      • Support staff with tasks to enhance patient comfort in various departments throughout the hospital, including the medical unit, emergency and outpatient surgery.

      • Answer questions and help direct hospital visitors.

      • Help with various office responsibilities, including copying, filing, and computer work.

Hoquiam Food and Clothing Bank*

    • The Hoquiam Food and Clothing Bank distributes food, clothing and personal items to individuals and families in need. Hours of operation are Monday and Wednesdays from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. During this time, volunteers fill bags with groceries and supplies which will be picked up by families in the afternoon. The food bank also works with Coastal Harvest to provide weekend meals to needy children within the Hoquiam School District.

    • Watchstanders
      • Watchstanders  are docents that help at the Grays Harbor Lighthouse, the Westport Maritime Museum, or Destruction Island Lens Building.
      • Greet visitors, give tours.
      • Ticket Sales.
      • Help with gift shop sales.

Catering Volunteers (AHS)

    • Preferably students who have taken culinary classes before.  These are catering events that the community hires us for.  I have an event in November and I also have Shop with a Cop breakfast in December.  In January we are doing a collaborative dinner with other schools for United Way.

Feed the Hungry *

    • The Feed the Hungry Program serves men, women, and families in Grays Harbor. We serve hot, nourishing meals Monday through Friday to all who need it, without any qualifications.

Volunteer Services of Grays Harbor

    • Volunteers assist elderly and siabled adults with household tasks, shopping, minor home repairs, wheelchair ramp construction, and other essential errands. Shopping and housework is usually twice a month. We can work with your schedule and preferences. WA State Patrol background check and signed confidentiality form required.

Chehalis Basin Partnership*

    • Do you know of a stream or river in Grays Harbor that needs improvement? The Grays Harbor Stream Team wants to hear your ideas. The Grays Harbor Stream Team is a coalition of students, educators, citizen volunteers, local agencies and non-profit organizations dedicated to the protection and restoration of streams the flow through Gray Harbor County.  The Grays Harbor Stream Team sponsors tree plantings, stream clean-ups, beach clean-ups, invasive species removal, or some other hands-on activity

Coastal Harvest

    • One of the benefits of functioning as a food bank distribution center is that we are able to acquire food in bulk and repackage it into family sized portions. This is our Repack Project, and when we say bulk, we are talking about containers that are up to 2,000 pounds! Individuals can also participate in our repack program by joining a group. Coastal Interpretive Center

    • Since 1977, the Coastal Interpretive Center has been a staple of the Ocean Shores community; entertaining and educating local school groups, the community, and THOUSANDS of yearly visitors from all over the world. 
    • We specialize in hands-on exhibits, guided adventures, and educational programming; none of which could be accomplished without our volunteers, members, and your donations!

Driftwood Players

    • Driftwood Players began in the late 1950’s. They initially provided summer theatre in remote locations to target tourists. The first play was The Drunkard, and then they did Lily the Felon’s Daughter. They moved to different locations in 1960, then in 1967, and in 1981 moved to its current location.

Friends of Schafer and Lake Sylvia

    • Friends of Schafer and Lake Sylvia State Parks (F.O.S.L.S.) is an organization whose main goal is to benefit, support, promote, protect and ensure the perpetual operation of Schafer and Lake Sylvia state parks. We are a Non-Profit, 501(C)3 community-based organization focused on helping preserve Schafer and Lake Sylvia State Parks.
    • We also organize and support the Lake Sylvia Fall Festival in September as well as many other public events such as the First Day Hike, Spring Trillium Trek, Spring Cleanups, and the Yule Log Celebration.
    • We need volunteers to do everything from down and dirty work in the parks to advocating for state parks in Olympia and everything in between. All skill and physical levels are welcome. 
    • We have lots of volunteer opportunities available, including trail maintenance, administrative duties, building projects, public outreach, and event planning.

Friendship House of Grays Harbor

    • Friendship House provides hope and help for Grays Harbor’s rapidly growing number of homeless single women and mothers with children. Whether they are seeking shelter because of abuse, addiction, or financial problems, women and children find the physical, emotional and spiritual support they need each year in our safe, family-oriented housing and our New Foundations Program.

Grays Harbor National Wildlife Refuge

    • Grays Harbor National Wildlife Refuge, in Hoquiam, Washington, is part of the Grays Harbor Estuary, one of six major estuary systems on the Pacific Coast and one of the largest concentrations of shorebirds on the west coast, south of Alaska. The intertidal flats, salt marshes, and open water provide essential habitat for a diversity of fish and wildlife, especially for hundreds of thousands of shorebirds during spring migration. The estuary is bordered by willows and deciduous woodlands of alder and cottonwood that are ideal for migratory songbirds.
    • Beginning in the fall and lasting throughout the school year, the Grays Harbor NWR Shorebird Education Program provides in-classroom lessons to 3rd and 4th grade students in Grays Harbor County. Volunteers are needed to assist with in-classroom lessons, shorebird poster drawing lessons, and field trips to Grays Harbor Refuge in April and May. It is rewarding to witness students' discoveries in nature, especially on the trail where they make connections with classroom learning.
    • Volunteers assist Refuge staff and the Washington Conservation Corps. crew in general tasks including: sign installation; boardwalk repairs; clearing and cutting along the Sandpiper Trail; blowing and sanding the Trail; and other routine maintenance projects.

Grays Harbor Youth Backpack *

    • A nonprofit organization that assists school aged children that are dependent on school food programs. We help ensure that kids all over Grays Harbor have nutritional food over the weekends.

Timberland Regional Library

    • Students can apply any time to volunteer for the library if that particular branch is in need of volunteers.

Aberdeen Art Center*

    • Create stained glass art to cover one side of one of the monoliths in our Pollinator Park in front of the senior center on Market Street.
    • Create an underwater world for the Aberdeen Rain Glow Festival.
    • Paint doors for our ADoor Project. The doors are sold and the money goes to scholarships for Aberdeen and Hoquiam students.
